Space: the final frontier

Whether or not you’re a Star Trek fan, you’ve probably heard those words before. They opened each episode and were followed with the mission of the Starship Enterprise – to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and to boldly go where no man has gone before. Why was it the final frontier? I guess they’d explored everything else so thought it was time for a wander round the universe.

As I’ve been out and about this week, I’m surrounded by busy people in a hurry to create the perfect Christmas Day for their families. I overhear conversations about driving to the home of one side of the family for Christmas Eve and then back home so the children can open their presents there before packing up and heading off to the other side of the family for Christmas dinner. I see people juggling their schedules to make sure they can pick up the turkey/get their hair done/squeeze in another carol service before the big day. It’s not just at Christmas either – most of us are pretty busy most of the time.

All of this makes me wonder whether space is an unknown territory for us as well: not Outer Space but inner space – mental space. I’m sure you’ve noticed that when you tidy up an overstuffed cupboard, you find all sorts of things you’d forgotten you’d stashed away in there. What might you find if you cleared out your overstuffed mind?

Whether you have 2 days off work or 2 weeks off work, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, this week’s pebble is:

How will you create some inner space for yourself this week?

I’m going to give myself some space and step away from the screen for a couple of weeks so I’ll take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas,

Michelle
